You can enjoy this recipe with rice or relish it as a soup. I love making soup when I have a busy day ahead. It takes no time to prepare and tastes yum with some drizzled ghee and garnished with freshly chopped coriander.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1/2 cup mung beans (green gram)

  • 1/2 cup red lentil (masoor dal)

  • 1 tablespoon ghee

  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric, organic

  • 2 garlic pods, chopped (you can avoid if you want)

  • 5 cups water

  • 1 tablespoons coriander powder

GUIDE / INSTRUCTIONS
  • Collect green gram & red lentil in a bowl and wash thoroughly; soak for half an hour and remove water afterward.

  • Boil the mixture of these two lentils in five cups of water in a pot on medium flame until it gets soft and cooked properly. Add salt and turmeric to this mixture and let it boil. Once it is done keep it aside with its stock.

  • On the other side, take iron or brass wok and add ghee to it. Once the ghee is warm put in cumin seeds. When they begin to splutter, add chopped garlic and sautee it until it turns light brown.

  • Now pour the boiled green gram and red lentil mix with its stock into the sauteed mixture.

  • Add salt as per your taste and coriander powder to it. Cover the wok with a lid and cook for 5 more minutes over a medium flame. Stir it well and if the dal looks thick, you can add about ½ cup warm water or more if required.

  • Lastly, add chopped coriander leaves and serve it hot.

Green gram & red lentil mix is a fantastic recipe to try. It is a perfect lunch recipe to have with rice.

Green gram and red lentils are more suitable for a Pitta & Kapha person. But, sometimes, it may cause trouble for a Vata person when consumed in excess. It is so because they are dry and light in quality which may cause trouble for a person with Vata dosha dominance. But, it does not mean that it is harmful to a Vata person, but it is better to take it in moderation if you are a Vata person. 

Everything in moderation is healthy for everyone. It is all about maintaining balance.
