Do you frequently suffer from mouth ulcers? If your answer is yes, you might need to avoid some food items that may be the cause of your mouth ulcers. I am sharing three such food items here that you may need to avoid if you get frequent mouth ulcers.

1. Spicy food:

All types of spicy food items like chilly, black pepper, wasabi, jalapeno, etc., lead to an increase in Pitta energy. As a result, you may develop mouth ulcers. So, avoid spicy food as much as you can to prevent and cure mouth ulcers quickly. Instead, eat simple food without adding any spices.

2. Hot potency food items:

Another type of food that may cause mouth ulcers are food items that are hot in potency.

As per Ayurveda, each food substance has its specific innate property, known as the potency of the food. Mostly, it is either hot or cold in potency. It is not about the physical temperature of the food, like if food is hot, it doesn’t mean its potency is hot and if ice cream is cold in touch, it means it is cold in potency.

In Ayurveda, when we talk about hot or cold food potency, it is first about the innate quality of the food, not about its physical temperature. Each food acts differently on different body types (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) based on its properties.

When you suffer from mouth ulcers, you should avoid hot potency food items like ginger, garlic, onion, papaya, pineapple, mustard, cinnamon, clove, horse gram, etc. In such a condition, you should instead indulge more in cooling food substances like coconut water, watermelon, bitter melon, coriander juice, okra, barley, ghee, etc.

Note: If you have a Pitta body type, you may find it relatable that whenever you eat excessive spicy or hot food, you may get symptoms like mouth ulcers, acidity, or burning sensation. 3. Fried & Fast food items:

If you are a junk food lover, you may need to avoid eating that for a while. Eating junk and fried food diminishes your digestive system. As a result, you may suffer from constipation. When it gets chronic, you may develop mouth ulcers as well. So, restrict such food items and eat more healthy, seasonal, and homemade food. It will help you regain your digestive strength. Thus you will get rid of constipation & mouth ulcers.

What else can you do to heal your ulcers?

  • Apply ghee to your ulcers.
  • Eat only light food like khichdi, porridge, or vegetable soup.
  • Consume 1 tsp Gulkand twice a day (avoid if you have diabetes).

Here I have given a solution for the mouth ulcers that occurs due to inadequate dietary habits. If you got them due to injury or any other reason, it is better to consult an Ayurvedic physician for a better diagnosis and treatment. But, if you feel that your bad diet habits are the reason behind your recurrent mouth ulcers, you can try avoiding these food items and see the remarkable change within 3-4 days.
